Scientific Name Dinotopterus gigas  (Jackson, 1959)
Common Name
Type Locality Nkata Bay, Lake Malawi [Lake Nyasa], southeastern Africa.
Synonym(s) Bathyclarias gigas, Dinotopterus gigas
Etymology Dinotopterus: From the Greek, di-, meaning two, noton, meaning back and pteron, meaning fin; in reference to the presence of the two dorsal fins (rayed and adipose).
