Type Locality Río Negro, downstream from main Villavicencio to Puerto Lopez highway at La Balsa (4°04'N, 73°04'W), Meta, Colombia.
Pronunciation see TOP siss - um bro sah
Etymology Cetopsis: From the Greek cetos, meaning whale, and -opsis, meaning likeness; in reference to the whale-like appearance.
