Type Locality Río Abácapa, west side of Chimantá-tepui, Venezuela, elevation 2200 feet.
Pronunciation chaz moe kran uss
Etymology Chasmocranus: Greek, chanos, -eos, ous, and chasma, -atos = abyss, mouth opened, inmensity + Greek, kranion = skull.
