Scientific Name Chrysichthys graueri  Steindachner, 1911
Common Name Spiny Catfish
Type Locality Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania.
Pronunciation cry sick thiss
Etymology Chrysichthys: From the Greek chrysos, meaning golden and ichthys, meaning fish; in reference to the golden-yellow color (of the type species, C. auratus).

General Remarks There has been a suggestion that Tanganyikan forms of Chrysichthys belong in a new genus Bathybagrus. We follow Catalog of Fishes, which has yet to change this.
