Type Locality Rio Miuã system of streams, possibly the Uarinabe stream, 10-12 kilometers from its confluence of the upper Negro River, Brazil.

Etymology Cory = helmet, doras = skin. In this case it was incorrectly used to mean armour (cuirasse) instead of skin in allusion to the dual rows of plates that run along the flanks of this genus. In zoology, a cryptic animal is one that is difficult to observe. This may be due to camouflage, nocturnality, subterranean lifestyle, transparency, or mimicry. In this case, the specific epithet refers to mimicry of similarly coloured species.
