Etymology Dianema: From the Greek di-, meaning two and nema, meaning filament; in reference to the long maxillary barbels.

Size 84mm or 3.3" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Horizontal black / white alternating stripes on tail fin, the only other member of the genus has a clear caudal fin and is generally smaller.
Sexing Females are more heavily bodied than males.

Other Parameters Somewhat fussy, this fish should be acclimatized in slightly soft water, pH around 6.0 - 6.5. One settled is much more accommodating.

Feeding Will take a variety of prepared foods, flake and frozen, for maintenance. User data.
Furniture Caves (rock or pipe), plants are often used as resting places in mid-water.
Compatibility Very docile fish, mid-water swimmer; an ideal larger catfish for the community aquarium.
Breeding Possible. Must feed live foods and run through dry season / wet season cycle. Eggs attached to floating cover, placed in circular grouping similar to Corys with similarly sized eggs. No bubble nest was present at time of spawning.
