Scientific Name Irvineia orientalis  Trewavas, 1964
Common Name
Type Locality Villaggio Duca delgi Abruzzi, Uebi Shebeli system, Somalia.
Etymology The Latin orientalis (from the East)referring to the East African distribution of the species.

Size 502mm or 19.8" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Characterized by a dorsal rayed fin with a spine and 6 rays, adipose fin present, pectoral fin with a spine, four pairs of barbels, pointed mouth laterally and wide dorsally.

Preserved specimens exhibit pale sides with a few indistinct fine lateral stripes. Head and back somewhat darker. In smaller specimens the lateral stripes (one above and one below the lateral line, one just above the base of the anal fin)are somewhat more distinct. Anal fin slightly speckled, the other fins colourless.
