Type Locality Palembang, Sumatra, Indonesia.
Synonym(s) Kryptopterichthys palembangensis, Silurus palembangensis
Pronunciation Cry top ter russ.
Etymology Kryptopterus: From the Greek kryptos, meaning hidden and pteryx, meaning fin; in reference to the reduced or absent dorsal fin of this group of fishes.
