Identification Currently regarded as a monotypic genus, there are differing vertebrae counts between specimens from the Lower congo mainstream and those from the upper Congo at Panga and the Ubangai River, with more study this may lead to at least one other species. Also has a highly modified mouth which is unique among the Amphiliidae.

Body is milk-white, the most noticable color features were on the fins:two broad oblique bands on the dorsal fin, two broad vertical bands on the caudal fin and a single broad band in the middle of the pectoral fin, all composed of brownish melanophores lying superficially on the fin rays.Anal, adipose and pelvic fins almost devoid of melanophores.
General Remarks Roberts (2003) removed most species from Leptoglanis and placed them, instead, into Zairichthys.
