Common Name
Type Locality Jequetepeque River, just west of Chilete, 6°19.9'S, 78°25.9'W, Peru.
Pronunciation ram dee ah
Etymology The name Rhamdia is apparently a misspelling of 'nhamdiâ', an orthographic variant of the Tupi-Guarani name for the fish, 'jandiá'. Named after the type locality.
