Type Locality Iraí, Sanga das Aguas Frias, cerca de 100 meters do rio Uruguai, 27°12'S, 53°17'W, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
Pronunciation rhine lor ee kar ee ah.
Etymology Greek, rhinos = nose + Latin, lorica, loricare = cuirass of corslet of leather. This specific epithet is a local name for the small stream where this species was found.
