Scientific Name Uegitglanis zammaranoi  Gianferrari, 1923
Common Name
Type Locality Pool in Uegit, El Uegit, Somalia.
Etymology Eugit, a village in Southern Somalia and glanis, Greek for Catfish. In honour of the collector, an Italian army officer, Major Vittorio Tedesco Zammarano, who collected the first specimens.

Identification The absense of eyes,pigment and air-breathing structure all related to living in a cave-dwelling lifestyle sets this fish apart from most other clariids
Sexing The genital papilla, which is right below the anus, is elongated and pointy in males while it is round and relatively larger (and larger than the anus) in females. In ventral view especially, females are much broader in the body than males of equal age and rearing practices.
General Remarks Four collection points are known, quite distant from one another(about 130 km between Manas and Siggia) suggest the species habitat is a wide and continuous underground hydrographic system, with tunnels, fissures and cavities.

Other Parameters In the wild the physio-chemical features of the waters inhabited by the species show a wide variability, differences in water composition is clearly tolerated.

Feeding Stenasellus pardii, a stygobitic isopod is thought to be the principal resource for wild fish. User data.
Breeding Unreported in the aquarium. In the wild, reproduction is thought to occur between January and March, a period characterized by a hot dry climate, females with well-developed ovaries were collected only in March from a well in Manas.
