Scientific Name Zaireichthys flavomaculatus  (Pellegrin, 1926)
Common Name
Type Locality Kamaiembi [Sankuru, Kamaiembi], River Lulua, southern Congo Basin.
Synonym(s) Leptoglanis flavomaculatus
Pronunciation za eer ICK thiss
Etymology Zaireichthys: From the Zaire river and the Greek ichthys, meaning fish; in reference to the type of the genus and its collection locality.

Size 39mm or 1.5" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification The majority of species are small and compact, have a defense mechanism of three ossified spines in the dorsal and pectoral fins,being able to lock them into place which makes the genus different from all other Amphiliidae.

Known only from a single specimen. Deep notched caudal fin with pointed lobes. Base color is yellowish with large dark spots that interconnect to create a marbled pattern.
General Remarks An unspotted individual from the Lafume River was identified as Zaireichthys flavomaculatus by Poll(1967)but is clearly a different species (most likely undescribed).
