Type Locality Tributary of Rio dos Marmelos, Rio Madeira basin, 110 kilometers east of Humaitá along rodovia Transamazônica, Amazonas State, Brazil.
Etymology Acestrorhynchus: Greek, agkistron = hook + Greek, rhyngchos = snout
