Scientific Name Rhyacoglanis varii  Shibatta & Souza-Shibatta, 2023
Common Name
Type Locality Rio do Peixe, Goianésia, upper Rio Tocantins basin, Goiás, Brazil, 15°28'23.8"S, 49°13'28.9"W.
Etymology Rhyacoglanis, from the Greek rhyax = torrent + glanis = catfish; indicating a catfish inhabiting running waters in reference to the habitat of the genus. Gender masculine. The species name varii honors ichthyologist Richard P. Vari for his outstanding contributions to the systematics of Neotropical fishes.

Identification Rhyacoglanis is distinguished from other Pseudopimelodidae by three synapomorphies: presence of a light blotch on the cheek; a connection between the middle of the dark caudal-fin stripe and the dark caudal-peduncle pigmentation; and 30-35 total vertebrae. Other Parameters In the wild, this species was collected in clear flowing waters over rocks, pebbles, sand and leaf litter. Local water parameters: Dissolved oxygen 8.3 mg/L, pH 8.06, conductivity 83.4μS/cm, and temperature 22.5° C.
