Type Locality Rio Mutuca, Mato Grosso State, Brazil.
Pronunciation hi POSS tow muss - moo took aye
Etymology Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth. Mutucae: refers to the Rio Mutuca where the species was collected.

Size 100mm or 3.9" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification A dwarf species within the genus, the base color is greenish golden brown atop a white abdomen without spots. Large dark brown spots on the fins. Brown spots on the trunk are larger than on the head and in two or three vertical rows below the dorsal fins; numerous small brown spots on the snout. Oft labelled as LDA09, which is an all-over large spotted species.
Sexing Not easy unless you can see the genital papilla which is small in this species.
General Remarks A mainly nocturnal species.

Feeding Mostly vegetarian, feed them vegetables, commercially prepared food such as tablets, best with Spirulina. Frozen or live food can be given once in a while but should not form the main diet User data.
Furniture A strong current over rounded rocks sitting on a sandy base. Use driftwood for shade as opposed to caves.
Compatibility A good citizen, neither very large nor territorial.
Suggested Tankmates Generally best kept with rheophilic fish.
