| Etymology | Cory = helmet, doras = skin. In this case it was incorrectly used to mean armour (cuirasse) instead of skin in allusion to the dual rows of plates that run along the flanks of this genus. Named to honour Dr. Jaques R. Géry. |

| Identification | Males and females look identical until maturity when only the males develop a strong pattern. Very similar to Corydoras pantanalensis except that C. pantanalensis has a hyaline (yellowish) tinge to the colour of the fins. |
