Type Locality Probably border area between Peru and Brazil.

Etymology Hyphessobrycon: hyphesson, -on, -on = a little smaller + Greek, bryko = to bite.

Size 61mm or 2.4" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification The bleeding heart tetra is distinguished by the small red spot on both sides of the fish.
General Remarks This fish is very prone to diseases and can grow larger than most tetra species as such it is not an ideal tetra for beginners.
