Type Locality Anin stream, near Weywoon [Wewun] 15°35'N, 97°43'E. Wagroo, Tenasserim, Myanmar.
Synonym(s) Batasio havmolleri, Mystus havmolleri, Mystus stigmaturus
Pronunciation bah tah see oh - floo vee ah till uss
Etymology The genus name comes from the local (Bengali) name of the fish (batasio or batashi).

Identification The bagrid genus Batasio Blyth comprises of small, laterally compressed catfishes distributed in South and Southeast Asia, diagnosed from its confamilials in having large sensory pores on the head, a narrow mental region, a pair of posteriorly-directed processes on the anterior part of vomer, a transversely-elongated bar-like entopterygoid, and the metapterygoid in close contact with the quadrate but free from the hyomandibular (Mo, 1991).

Easily distinguished by its pattern of a dark pre-dorsal bar and a spot below the middle of the adipose-fin base. Juvenile fish have a pattern of vertical bars.
Sexing Males have an elongate genital papilla in front of the anal fin.

Compatibility Peaceful, somewhat delicate fish that should be kept in small groups of 3-4 individuals. Best kept in a well-oxygenated tank with a vigorous current. Ideal tankmates include balitorine loaches such as Homaloptera, and fast-swimming cyprinids such as Danio or Barilius .
Suggested Tankmates Peaceful Cyprinids like Puntius or Oreichthys and Balitorine loaches like Schistura or Nemacheilus species.
Breeding Has reproduced in the aquarium.
