Type Locality Yaguas River, Putumayo River basin, Putumayo Province, Loreto Department, Peru, 2°43'5.31"S, 70°31'42.12"W.
Etymology Greek, mastax, -agos = bite + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish.
