Scientific Name Pethia guganio  (Hamilton, 1822)
Common Name Glass-barb
Type Locality Brahmaputra and Yamuna rivers, India.
Etymology Pethia is the generic vernacular name for small cyprinids in Sinhala.

Size 80mm or 3.1" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
General Remarks Pethiyagoda et al.(Synopsis of South Asian Puntius, 2012) tentatively retained 'Puntius guganio' and 'P.nangalensis' in the genus Puntius and suggested that these two species might belong to a genus of their own.
