Pronunciation Ham mee see loo russ - heter oh rine kuss
Etymology From the Greek hemi- meaning half and Silurus, the word for catfish. From the Greek hemi- meaning half and Silurus, the word for catfish. The specific name comes form the Greek heteros- meaning different and rhynchos, meaning snout, in reference to the distinctive snout shape.

Identification Easily distinguished by its distinctive protruding snout and simple barbel morphology.
Sexing Females are more deeper bodied. Males are more slender, and have prominent serrations on the posterior edge ofthe pectoral spine.
