Size | 200mm or 7.9" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp. |
Identification | Similar to Lasiancistrus but broader when viewed from above especially in larger adults. Striped species of Dekeyseria were placed in Zonancistrus but because this was only based on colouration, they are more commonly placed with the non-striped species in Dekeyseria. Individuals are able to change colour to suit surroundings or mood. This ranges from a dark grey / black, through dark brown to light grey. |
Sexing | Mature males have substantial odontodes both on the thick pectoral ray and the posterior part of the body. The male also have a broader head than the female. |
General Remarks | L151: DATZ 2/1994, pp 77-78, L216: DATZ 8/1996, pp 480-482. L151 Aqualog matches DATZ and the former, rather helpfully, shows a range of colouration. L216 Aqualog supplement IS the DATZ picture. |
