Type Locality Upper Amazon at Calderon, Brazil.
Synonym(s) Duopalatinus goeldii, Duoplatinus goeldii, Platysilurus barbatus, Platystoma mucosa, Platystomatichthys mucosus
Etymology (Greek)Platys=Flat + (Greek)siluros=a cat fish. This specific epithet literally means slimy(mucosus=slimy).
