Identification All Leporacanthicus spp. have a small backwards facing slightly proud blunt thorn-like plate on top of their heads.
General Remarks This species is reportedly collected from the Rio Atabapo and exported from Colombia. That river is an extreme blackwater habitat and unlikely to support the kind of invertebrates Leporacanthicus feed on. A single specimen of a similar species was recorded from the Rio Ventuari. The origin of this species is unconfirmed.
