Type Locality Pantanal, Departamento Santa Cruz, 16°06'525''S, 59°55'620''W, Bolivia.
Pronunciation kor ee doh rass (lineage eight subclade three). - pant AN al EN siss
Etymology Cory = helmet, doras = skin. In this case it was incorrectly used to mean armour (cuirasse) instead of skin in allusion to the dual rows of plates that run along the flanks of this genus. Named after its distribution area, the Pantanal.

Size 69mm or 2.7" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Males and females look identical until maturity when only the males develop a strong pattern. Very similar to Corydoras geryi except that C. geryi has a transparent (clear) fins which are sometime patterned too.
Sexing Mature males show a network pattern with brown, basic colouration always emerald green. Those without the network pattern are either immature or unsuited males or females. Mature females are larger and broader than these unadorned males.

Breeding Knaack, who collected and described the species, reports captive spawning. He states the fish are easy to breed and compares them to C. geryi (also easy to breed). At 15mm length the fry are brownish mottled.
