Scientific Name Pachypterus khavalchor  (Kulkarni, 1952)
Common Name
Type Locality Krishna River, near Islampur, Satara District and Panchaganga River, near Kolhapur, Maharashtra India.
Pronunciation khaa-val-chor.
Etymology "khaval" - scales ; "chor" - thief (in Marathi, a language spoken in Maharashtra, India). The name is in reference to the scale eating behaviour of this species.

Feeding This species is a known scale-eating fish. It attacks its prey at night to tear of scales, then returns to eat the scales it dislodges.
