Scientific Name Ageneiosus vittatus  Steindachner, 1908
Common Name Duck Catfish
Type Locality Rio Purus, Brazil.
Pronunciation ah genie OH sus
Etymology Ageneiosus, from the Greek a, meaning without and genias, meaning beard in reference to the apparent lack of barbels. In fact, catfish of this genus have very short maxillary barbels that are almost indistinguishable to the human eye.

General Remarks A. vittatus is one of the more commonly used scientific names when species of this genus are found for sale, it is slightly surprising to find that this widespread Amazonian species is very, very rarely imported.
