Type Locality Market at Angoram, Sepik River, Papua New Guinea.
Pronunciation Nee oh ar ee uss.
Etymology Neo, new (newly discovered) and arius from the Greek arios, meaning warlike or bellicose; in reference to the well-developed fin spines.
