Type Locality Rio dos Macacos, Represa Engenho da Serra, Paulo de Frontin, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Etymology (Greek)Pseudo=False + (Greek)otis,-ous=ear + (Greek)thyris=a little door. The species name is based on the fact that the species is described from the city of Rio Janeiro.
