The generic name Sineuchiloglanis is made from a combination of the Greek prefix Sinae- (Chinese) and Euchiloglanis, a generic name used for a group of Glyptosterninae, alluding to most of the species occurring in China, as well as distinguishing the genus from Euchiloglanis (=Chimarrichthys), Creteuchiloglanis and Pareuchiloglanis.
