Scientific Name Agamyxis albomaculatus  (Peters, 1877)

Type Locality Calabozo, Venezuela.
Synonym(s) Doras albomaculatus
Pronunciation al bow mak you lah tuss
Etymology Agamyxis: From the Greek agan, meaning much, and myxa, meaning mucus; in reference to the mucus produced by the fish. Albo, white and maculatus, spotted means "White spotted".

Identification A. pectinifrons and A. albomaculatus cannot be reliably told apart without dissection (which shows differences in the number of gas bladder tendrils).
