Compatibility | Males are territorial towards anything seen as "similar". The common name of Fighting fish is well deserved, and a dominant male will kill anything it thinks is a competing male. |
Suggested Tankmates | The long fins on the males can become a tempting target for fin-nippers, so avoid mixing with fish that are known to nip other fish's fins. Also best to avoid other colourful/long-finned fish that may be seen as competitors. |
Breeding | Male builds a bubble nest under a leaf or piece of floating plastic (margarine tub lid or similar), then entices the female into lay eggs in the nest, and guards the eggs/fry until they are free swimming. It is best to remove the female after the spawn, as the male may see her as a threat. |
