Common Name Bold Characodon
Type Locality Pond at El Ojo de Agua de Las Mujeres, near the village of El Toboso (24°16'35"N, 104°34'50"W), Durango, Mexico.
Pronunciation Charácodon - áudax
Etymology The genus name is derived from the Greek and means "with teeth like a Charax(= a genus of the family Characidae)". The species-name is derived from the Latin and means "bold" or "daring", referring to the aggressive behaviour of this species.
