EtymologyThe generic name comes from the Greek hypsi, meaning high and doris, meaning dagger, in reference to the dorsal and pectoral spines. The specific name comes from the type locality (Oregon).

Size 127mm or 5" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
IdentificationMaxilla toothed. Coronoid process of lower jaw lower than in H. farsonensis. Intercornual concavity of mesethmoid weak or absent.
General RemarksLived in freshwater with suckers (Catostomidae) and mooneyes (Hiodontidae). Presence of crocodilian teeth, cycads, palms and banana relatives indicates a tropical or subtropical environment.
