Type LocalityGreen River Formation, Laney Shale member, 3 miles E of Big Sandy Reservoir, Sweetwater County.

EtymologyThe generic name comes from the Greek hypsi, meaning high and doris, meaning dagger, in reference to the dorsal and pectoral spines. The specific name comes from the type locality (Farson, Wyoming).

Size 281mm or 11.1" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
IdentificationMaxilla toothed. Coronoid process of lower jaw higher than in †H. oregonensis. Intercornual concavity of mesethmoid prominent.
General RemarksLived in freshwater with gars (Lepisosteidae), bowfins (Amiidae), mooneyes (Hiodontidae), herrings (Clupeidae), suckers (Catostomidae) and ''primitive'' percoids. The climate was probably subtropical.
