Type Locality Kinshasa [Leopoldville], Democratic Republic of Congo.
Synonym(s) Chrysobagrus longibarbis

Etymology Chrysichthys: From the Greek chrysos, meaning golden and ichthys, meaning fish; in reference to the golden-yellow color (of the type species, C. auratus).
