Common Name
Type Locality Rio de la Plata.
Synonym(s) Pimelodus labrosus
Etymology Named after Hermann von Ihering, 1850-1930; He arrived in Brazil in 1880 and settled in Rio Grande. Expert in birds, fishes and molluscs.

Feeding In nature, I. labrosus is a benthophagous species, with bivalve and gastropod mollusks, Diptera larvae and nematode worms being its principle food items along the Rio Uruguay.
