Type Locality	Canal along the highway from Oelin to Bandjermasin, about 15 kilometers from Bandjermasin, Borneo.
Synonym(s)	Barbus kahajani, Barbus rhomboocellatus, Barbus tetrazona, Puntius rhomboocellatus, Systomus rhomboocellatus
Etymology	The specific name rhomboocellatus: Rhombo in reference to the rhomboid shape of the spots, ocellatus which originates in "oculus", eye, referring to the fact that the spots have a different coloured centre, looking like an eye.
