Type Locality Mbal River, at Mbal, Sanaga River system, 5°37'N, 14°03'E, Cameroon.
Etymology In reference to the Sanaga River.

Identification Dark brown above light cream below, flanks light brown, cream lateral linehead with dark stripe before the eyes with light patches above, 5 or 6 light patches along the back, dark brown patches above pelvic fin bases.Fins with brown rays and dark distal band, outer rays of caudal brown.
