Scientific Name Eretmodus marksmithi  Burgess, 2012
Common Name Mark Smith's Tanganyikan Goby Cichlid
Type Locality Makombe, Burundi (? from ornamental fish trade), northern part of Lake Tanganyika.
Etymology Eretmodus: Greek, eretmos, -ou = with oars + Greek, odous = teeth. marksmithi: The species is named marksmithi for Mark Smith, ardent cichlid fancier and breeder, photographer, and author, who was instrumental in obtaining specimens and photographs of this new species.

Identification This species differs from the only other described species of that genus, E. cyanostictus, by differences in color pattern and having a subterminal mouth.

Distribution Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, occurs in the northern two thirds to three-fourths of the lake.
