Sexing | The female is wider around the stomach. Internal examination of gravid females showed that the eggs are small and white. A female around 20 cm may have approximately 400-500 small (1mm in diameter) white eggs. |
General Remarks | The pictured specimen was collected at Santa Rosa, Near Leticia, Colombia, close to the border between Colombia, Brazil and Peru. It was also found to abundantly occur down river at Benjamin Constant. Locals report that they make a fine soup. |

Compatibility | In nature, this species seems to gather together in large groups. During the day it is to be found in deeper waters, around 5 meters. At dawn they hunt near the waters edge for small insects and smaller fish. |
Breeding | Unreported in captivity. Local fisherman report that the species spawns around December and January in shallow water thick with aquatic plants. |
