Type LocalityRio Jacutinga, road Seara-Concórdia (BR283), Concórdia, Santa Catarina State, Brazil, about 27°10'S, 52°09'W.
Synonym(s)
EtymologyGreek, hemi = the half. While the Greek, agkistron = hook, is thought to be the root of the term ancistrus, hemiancistrus can be taken to mean that these species have a part (not exactly HALF) of the features of the genus Ancistrus, but not ALL of the features. Lorica, Loricare = cuirass of corslet of leather (a suit of armour made of leather).
