| Distribution | Africa: Senegal to the Nile basins and from Lake Chad to Ituri River in Congo basin and upper Zambezi. Also known from Côte d"Ivoire and Ghana. Elsewhere, widely distributed in West Africa. Introduced around 1970 in a stream fed by hot springs in Villach (Austria) (Ref.59043).
