Type LocalityBrook tributary to Río Zulia, at Estacion Tachira, 60 kilometers north of San Cristobal, Venezuela, elevation about 150 meters.

EtymologyHoplomyzon: From the Greek hoplos, meaning shield and myzon, meaning belly; in reference to the bony plates on the ventral surface.
