    Type LocalityRio Agua Fria, fazenda Praia Alta 2, estrada Araguaçu/Barreira do Piqui, 27 kilometers ao norte de Araguaçu, Araguaçu, Tocantins State, Brazil.
    Type Locality NotesType locality inferred to latitude/longitude reported for Hyphessobrycon moniliger, collected by same individuals (Lima et al.) during same summer with an almost identical narrative of catch location (Fazenda Praia Alta 2, estrada Araguaçú/Barreira do Piqui, 27km ao norte de Araguaçú, poça atrás da sede). Note that H. muzuspi was not claimed to have been collected in a "pool" behind an "office" and therefore actual type locality is probably nearby this lat/long.

    IdentificationHypoptopoma are small(ish) loricariids with a stocky body with a wide, flattened, head with the eyes on the side of the head and a concave profile, with a normal (not extremely thin) tail.
