Common Name	Beige Cochliodon
Type Locality	1 kilometer upstream from Caterpiza, River Marañon, Amazonas, Peru.

Etymology	Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth. The specific epithet is from the Latin, ericius, for hedgehog in reference to the many sharp odontodes on the keels.
Species Information
Size	187mm or 7.4" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification	Diagnosed from all other members of the Hypostomus cochliodon group by its coloration: light tan-gray with well-separated spots and no stripes. Differs from H. hemicochliodon by lacking a buccal papilla, and from H. pyrineusi by the presence of strong, sharp keels on the lateral plates. This is mostly similar to H. oculeus from which it differs mainly in coloration and morphometrics
