Etymology Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth.

Size 240mm or 9.4" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Large spots on the body, spaced relatively far apart. Smaller spots on the head, spaced closer together. Previously confused with H. fuscomaculatus, which has larger spots on the head, and H. mutucae, which has more spots on the body, spaced closer together.
