Scientific Name Iheringichthys megalops  Eigenmann & Ward, 1907
Common Name
Type Locality Bahia Negra, Río Paraguay, Paraguay.
Etymology Named after Hermann von Ihering, 1850-1930; He arrived in Brazil in 1880 and settled in Rio Grande. Expert in birds, fishes and molluscs. This specific epithet refers to its large(megale=large) eyes(ops=eyes).
