Type Locality Bahia, munucapality of Boa Nova, rio de Contas basin, rio Gongogi drainage, rio Tarugo, tributary of rio Uruba, 14°22'08.95"S 40°11'45.33"W, Brazil.
Etymology Greek, itys, ityos = circle + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish.
